SHAWN MENDES 3rd COVER ROLLACOASTER MAGAZINE FALL/WINTER 2021

Shawn Mendes

Artist and activist Shawn Mendes is using his star power to make a difference for good through his namesake foundation, performances, partnerships, appearances and social media. He’s normalizing the mental health conversation and sharing his own struggles to amplify healing for us all. “It was always my goal to eventually be able to do more for people... I felt there was a lot of pain happening in the world, and was very interested to figure out how to help, so I started my foundation, and it’s been a big learning process too. Its about creating a place where people can learn how to change and impact what matters to them, from a trustworthy source, that’s truly researching.” @shawnfoundation gave out several “Wonder Grants” worldwide already in just a few years to Fanta Ballo, Chmba Ellen Chilemba, Diana Chao, Evan Ehlers, Hasler Iglesias, Ella Grace Denton,  Maureen Muketha, Juan Jose Martin Bravo, Cory Montalvo, Autumn Peltier, Angela Busheska, Kheris Rodgers, Shah Rafayat, Stephanie Hu, and The Thirst Project in Los Angeles.

With his upcoming 2022 Wonder World Tour finally announced and tickets on sale now, his hit single “Summer of Love” released, he had a chance share with us what’s become most important. From life lessons, to his easy steps to calm anxiety with breath-work, friendships, his latest favorite book, “Braiding Sweetgrass”, soccer, how his puppy Tarzan taught him true responsibility and “pulls him out of obsessive patterns and dark moments,” and his unapologetic outfit repeats on red carpets to promote more sustainability in fashion. For our shoot he wore vintage, BIOPIC and LGBTQI+ designers and socially responsible brands.

Whatever he’s doing obviously works, his first four studio albums all topped the charts since 2014 after winning Ryan Seacrest’s Best Cover Song, he signed to Island Records and it’s been non-stop success since, but not without hardships. He is very open about his tough times even on the big screen with “Shawn Mendes: In Wonder” the 2020 inspiring documentary centering around his every day and on-stage life, and his battle with depression and anxiety.  He's not letting the challenges stop him though, he just wants tomake music that people connect with and hopefully keep inspiring people, and be a positive contribution.
