“There’s a lot of pressure, especially being a female artist. Being a mixed-race girl in this industry, constantly being compared against your friends when all you want to do is lift each other up, can be really tiring.”

Preparing for the release of her highly anticipated debut album, singer-songwriter Grace Carter reflects on the what life would have been like if she hadn’t found her passion for music at an early age, being shouted out by industry icon Lana Del Rey and friend Dua Lipa, and how society pits other female artists against one another in order to increase their fame.

Having spent lockdown busily working away on her debut album, the singer lets us know the pressures she put on herself for the project and how she channelled feelings of abandonment and rejection into finding her own identity.
