Rising star August Royals released his first single, “Blue Football”, in July. The cinematic visuals and euphoric, gritty sound instantly caught people’s attention and he swiftly followed it with two more singles, “Crash”, “All I Need”, and the track “Oxygen”. Now, he’s preparing to release his debut EP, Inhaler, in early 2022. The nine-track EP will follow his journey from adolescence to adulthood, blending genres and styles from spoken word to 80s soft rock.
Speaking about the release, August said, “Substance use, heartbreak, sad times, happy times, being crazy in love, being insecure, Inhaler encompasses all these phases that I think a lot of people go through, especially when you're young and experiencing new things as you grow up. Making it was like taking that breath that reminds you, ‘Hey, I'm here. I'm living.’ Hopefully listening to it feels like that too.”
August sat down with Rollacoaster to discuss the upcoming EP, why his struggles with mental health still make him feel like an outcast sometimes, and the Harry Styles song that got him through his break-up.
