Settle down, sweetie, it’s time to sleep with the fishes.
GRIPPA is an artist who, though inhabiting an unorthodox aesthetic, is not afraid of cold hard truths — proving that she herself is not exempt from which in her explosive new track, “Fish”.
Speaking on the track, the artist imparts, ”Fish is one of the more fun songs I've made. It is part of my EP "Is That Her?" which is a six-song collection about the phases of a breakup. I come from an Italian family, and the term "sleeping with the fishes" means you're gonna die. The producer YX and I played around with this idea that I killed off my ex and now he's sleeping with the fishes and YX added upbeat production to make it danceable. It was a blast to create a music video with One Call Productions showing this literal interpretation of the dark story complete with bright, funky outfits to match the production with a twist at the end."
Though it’s production and lyricism may be light, it’s thematic concept is not: with GRIPPA found so overcome with anger that she becomes responsible for her exes demise. Claiming back her independence, respect and sanity (though that might be considered up for debate), “Fish” proves once again how GRIPPA tackles soul crushing events with a playful rhythm — simultaneously inviting every one of us to revel gladly in our misery.
